2022 AMAs: Wizkid Wins Favourite Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Tems, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj & More Among Winners — See Full List

The American Music Awards went down on Sunday night, November 20. As Qataris were digesting their loss at the opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, our fave musicians were getting ready for a big night in music. And boy did it live up to it!

Wayne Brady hosted the occasion live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, and the star-studded event celebrated the year’s best in music and performances, as voted on by fans.

Going into the night Bad Bunny topped the nominations with 8, but it was Taylor Swift who won the most awards, triumphing in all 6 categories she was nominated for.

In a first of its kind recognition of Afrobeats at the AMAs, Wizkid beat Tems, CKay, Burna Boy, and Fireboy DML to the Favourite Afrobeats Artist of the year. His 2020 megahit, Essence, featuring Tems also beat Beyonce’s Break My Soul to the Favourite R&B Song award.

There was an additional victory for Tems on the night, with her work on Future’s Wait For U, also featuring Drake, winning the Favourite Hip Hop Song of the year. That capped off a stellar night for Tems and Wizkid as they both went home with two awards appease.

Performers who took to the AMA stage included Pink, who opened the show, as well as Dove Cameron, Lil Baby, Bebe Rexha, Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons and others.
