It was a glorious occasion for Tems at the 2022 BET Awards which kicked off at the Microsoft Theatre in LA on the 26th of June with red carpet entries and slipped into the early hours of 27th June.

The prolific Nigerian singer became the first female Nigerian artist to win the Best International Act Award, beating fellow countryman Fireboy DML and seven other international acts including UK rapper Dave, Fally Pupa and more.

“Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen,” said Tems while accepting her awrd.

The ceremony was hosted by Hollywood actress Taraji P Hensen and, with many other big stars such as Jack Harlow, Kanye West, Lizzo etc. climbing the podium either to collect awards, perform, or present awards.
