Which 2022 movies are you most excited to see?

2022 will likely see the movie industry return to new-normalcy after the massive disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the big Marvel break in 2020, the world’s most commercially successful film studio is back with a bang, and they mean business. The MCU phase 4 has already began last year and will take more shape when a second “Dr Strange” movie and a fourth “Thor” movie drop later this year.

Below is a list of the most anticipated movies of 2022 as well as their respective release dates.

1. Moonfall (February 4)

“Moonfall” is an apocalyptic thriller from director Roland Emmerich. It stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu and Donald Sutherland, as they try to prevent the end of the world.

2. Death on the Nile (February 11)

Kenneth Branagh returns as Hercule Poirot for another whodunit with a star-studded lineup of suspects after solving 2017’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”

3. Uncharted (February 18)

Sony Pictures and Tom Holland continue their love story, as they adapt Naughty Dog’s hit video game series “Uncharted” into live action. Holland teams up with Mark Whalberg as they embark on a globetrotting treasure hunting adventure.

4. The Batman (March 4)

The world has been waiting to see how Robert Pattinson performs as the legendary DC comics character Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. Pattinson is joined by Zoe Kravitz, as they take on Gotham’s deadly gangs in their shiny leather suits.

5. Morbius (April 1)

Sony continues to build out its universe of Marvel characters with another villain-centric spinoff following the success of the two “Venom” films. Jared Leto transforms into Morbius, a doctor who attempts to cure himself of a rare blood disease but inadvertently becomes a super-strong, flying, blood-thirsty vampire.

6. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (April 8)

The world’s favourite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in “Sonic the Hedhog 2.” After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations.

7. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (April 15)

Welcome back to the world of wizardry and magic. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore will arrive theatres April 15, 2022.

8. The Northman (April 22)

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes “The Northman,” an action-packed epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father’s murder, with an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.

9. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6)

Things take a whole different turn for Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), as he goes on a quest to learn about the “Multiverse of Madness.” What will Strange find? Find out when “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” drops in theatres on from May 6.

10. Top Gun: Maverick (May 27)

After about 35 years, Tom Cruise returns to the cockpit as Lt. Pete Maverick Mitchell, this time as a mentor of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen. Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

11. Jurassic World Dominion (June 10)

With dinosaurs now unleashed on the modern world, “Jurassic World Dominion” will answer the age-old question of whether humans and dinos can co-exist. Colin Trevorrow is back to direct the third instalment of the rebooted franchise, which also marks the return of original “Jurassic Park” actors Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. “Jurassic World Dominion,” stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

12. Lightyear (June 17)

After Buzz Lightyear’s exploits in Pixar’s “Toy Story,” he’s finally set to have his solo outing. Follow Lightyear to infinity and beyond when the film releases in theatres on the 17th of June.

13. Minions: The Rise of Gru (July 1)

Animation studio Illumination is back with another instalment of their hit family animation. This time they go back in time, to the formative of grand villain, Gru and his minions.

14. Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8)

After the events in “Avengers: Endgame,” the god of Thunder, Thor Odinson is back on another adventure with members of The Guardians of the Galaxy crew, this time with a love twist.

15. Black Adam (July 29)

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is DC Comics antihero, Black Adam. The film is a spin-off of 2019’s “Shazam.”

16. Mission: Impossible 7 (September 30)

IMF special agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back for the 7th instalment of the hit spy action movie franchise “Mission Impossible.”

18. The Flash (November 4)

DC Scarlet Speedster’s solo film stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash), Ben Affleck as Batman, and in his long-awaited return to the cape and cowl, Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

19. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11)

Ryan Coogler is returning to direct a second “Black Panther” movie, which will be released two years after the tragic death of star Chadwick Boseman. The majority of the cast will return to continue the superhero tale set in Wakanda, including Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke and newcomers Michaela Coel and Dominique Thorne as the young hero Ironheart.

20. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 16)

Jason Momoa is back as the king of Atlantis, with a new, golden suit to boot. Director James Wan returns for the underwater sequel, as does Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and newcomers to the series Indya Moore, Pilou Asbaek and Jani Zhou.

21. Avatar 2 (Dec. 16)

After a 13-year wait, audiences can finally return to Pandora. James Cameron’s long-gestating sequel is not only one of the most anticipated films of the year, but the decade. The pic finds Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) fleeing their home to protect their family when an old threat returns. 

That’s all for the biggest films of 2022 with already confirmed release dates. There are lots of significant others like the sequel of 2019’s “Knives Out” and a “Super Mario” movie, whose release dates are yet to be confirmed.
