Nigerians have been dragging Burna Boy for failing to remain in the country and participate in the ongoing general election. However, the singer has shared a story on Instagram, urging INEC to avoid tampering with the election result.
Nigerians took to the polls on Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26 to elect their next president and their next set of lawmakers, in what has been coined the ‘most anticipated’ election in the history of the country’s democracy.
There are three major candidates vying to replace outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari, namely Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC, Atiku Abubakar of the former ruling party PDP, and Peter Obi of the resurging LP.
Nigerians have decried the lack of fairness in the elections, especially in parts of Lagos state, the home of the APC’s candidate, Tinubu, where there are reported cases of violence, voter intimidation, and result documentation malpractices.

People have also alleged that INEC is partly to blame for the disruptions in the general election, with certain reports around the country revealing that INEC workers were late to the polling units, forgot critical materials, and did not know how to operate the biometric verification machine (BVAS).
Burna Boy’s post came amidst allegations that INEC has been compromised in favour of the ruling APC, as results are now being collated across the states and at the final collation center in Abuja led by INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
The Grammy winner is renowned for using his music as a platform to call out bad governance in Nigeria, and expectations were high amongst fans to see him join celebrities like Falz, Mr Macaroni, Iyabo Ojo, Chioma Chukwuka, Mr P, and more on the frontline of the charge for better leadership in the country.
