Singer and songwriter, Naira Marly, has declared his support for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as things continue to heat up ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria gubernatorial elections. The Marlian Music founder had earlier performed at a rally organized by Sanwo-Olu’s APC a few days before the presidential election took place on February 25.
Marley shared several tweets on Twitter where he made his support for the incumbent Lagos governor public. “For me o Sanwo Olu again ni o.” he wrote.
Nigerians have been heavily involved in this year’s election conversations, and have equally seen many celebrities voice support for certain politicians just like Naira Marley has.
However, one state that most people consider a major battleground between the resurging Labour Party and incumbent APC, is Lagos state. According to the presidential election results, the LP’s Peter Obi defeated APC’s Bola Tinubu, who ruled the state for 8 years. All previous Lagos governors since 1999 have come from the same political establishment.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu will face off with the LP’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, whose ambition appears to be gathering steam, and is backed by many technocratic Lagosians. The 2023 gubernatorial election will take place across the country on Saturday, March 18.
We encourage all qualified Nigerians to exercise their civic responsibility by participating in the election. Vote, and vote wisely.
