A little over 24 hours ago, we said goodbye to 2022, a year that gifted so many movie titles we won’t soon forget and ushered in a new year. With 2023 comes yet another extensive roster of movie titles to ravish and we’ve compiled a list of 22 of them we’re most looking forward to.
- Antman and The Wasp: Quantumania: (February 17)
The third installment in the Antman franchise and the first MCU movie of 2023 will bring our favorite burglar-turned-superhero back to our screens, this time to battle the MCU’s new big bad – Kang The Conqueror (played by Jonathan Majors) in the quantum realm.
Most of the cast from the previous two movies return with new comers Kathryn Newton and Jonathan Majors playing Cassie Lang and Kang The Conqueror respectively.
2. Cocaine Bear (February 24)
Ever wondered what it would look like if a 500-pound black bear sniffed a ton of cocaine and went on a killing spree? Well, come February 24 thanks to Elizabeth Banks, you get to find out on the big screens.
In Cocaine Bear, an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converges in a Georgia forest after a 500-pound black bear ingests a large amount of cocaine and goes on a drug-fueled rampage. It stars the late Ray Liotta, Brooklyn Prince, O’Shea Jackson, Kristofer Hivju, amongst others.
3. Creed 3 (March 3)
In Creed 3, we see Adonis get in the ring once again for a face-off with an old friend turned foe, a former boxing prodigy who believes his dream got stolen, a man who goes by the name Damian.
Directed by Michael B. Jordan himself, Creed 3 sees the usual gang reprise their roles except for Sylvester Stallone who plays Rocky. Jonathan Majors joins the cast as the main antagonist, Damian Anderson.
4. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods (March 24)
Billy Batson, his superhero alter ego Shazam, and his super team of foster siblings returns to action in Shazam! Fury Of The Gods to battle the ‘Daughters of Atlas’ and stop them from using a powerful weapon that could end all life on earth.
As of now, whether Zachary Levi’s Shazam has a place in the new DC Universe remains unknown but that wouldn’t stop us from watching our favorite man-child superhero.
5. John Wick: Chapter 4 (March 24)
March 24th, 2023 marks the return of the legendary ‘Babayaga’. Despite the price on his head soaring higher by the day, John Wick sets out to bring down the all mighty High Table on his quest for vengeance. To this, he seeks out the most powerful players of the underworld.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, John Wick 3 features Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Donnie Yen, Asia Kate Dillon, amongst several others.
6. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (March 31)
In Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves we see a real-life rendering of a DnD quest where a charming thief and a band of powerful and magical misfits embark on a mission to retrieve a long lost relic. Their adventure goes awry when they get entangled with the wrong people.
It stars Chris Pine, Sophia Lillis, Rege-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith, amongt others.
7. Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol 3 (May 5)
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3 sets up our beloved team of goofy superheroes on one last mission to protect a galaxy. According to the official synopsis, Peter Quill leads the Guardians on one last dangerous mission to protect one of their own. A mission that could lead to the team breaking up, like The Beetles.
The usual gang all return to reprise their roles alongside some newcomers. Will Poulter plays Adam Warlock, Chukwu Iwuji plays the High Evolutionary, and Sylvester Stallone plays Stakar Ogord, a high ranking ravager.000
8. Fast X (May 19)
The tenth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise debuts in 2023. Fast X sees Cipher (Charlize Theron) continue her quest to take out Dominic Toretto and his ‘family’. To do so she seeks out the help of Dante, a mysterious new adversary.
In addition to the regular cast, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron return wiith Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, and Jason Momoa are all set to make their debut in the cash cow franchise.
9. The Little Mermaid (May 26)
Disney’s list of live-action remakes of popular animations grows a little in 2023 with The Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid offers a real-life reimagination of Ariel’s story. An underwater princess fascinated by the human world, yearning for an adventure. Her desire for an adventure up above only grows when she meets and falls in love with the Prince Eric.
Hailey Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, and Awkwafina all feature.
10. Spiderman: Across The Spiderverse (June 2)
Our friendly neighborhood Spiderman, Miles Morales is catapulted into the Multiverse once again where he encounters a lot more Spider-people. Although their interest initially aligns, things soon take a different turn when they disagree on how to handle a new threat pitting him against the other Spiders.
Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Issa Rae, and Daniel Kaluuya all voice.
11. Transformers: Rise of The Beasts (June 9)
Set in the year 1984, Rise of The Beasts still explores the long standing beef between the Autobots and the Decepticons, this time three new alien robot factions; the Maximals, the Predators and the Terrorcons.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr (Creed 2)., it stars Peter Cullen, Anthony Ramos Ron Perlman, Pete Davidson, Dominique Fishback, and Tobe Nwigwe, amongst others.
12. Elementals (June 16)
From the studio that has gifted us with jewels like Incredibles, Toy Story, Up, Ratatouille, and Coco to mention but a few, comes another potential classic in Elementals.
The synopsis reads, “In a city where fire, water, land and air residents live together, a fiery young woman and a go-with-the-flow guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.”
Directed by Peter Sohn, Elementals features voices of Leal Lewis as Ember Lumen, a fire element and Mamoudou Athie as Wade Ripple, a water element.
13. India Jones and the Dial of Destiny (June 30)
The fifth installment of the Indiana Jones film series sees the world-renowned archeologist pulled back into action yet again to battle another one of “Hitler’s hordes”.
Set in 1969, Indiana Jones accompanied by his god-daughter Helena, set out to stop former Nazi’s hired by NASA to win the race to space against the Soviet Union but harbor ulterior motives of their own.
Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas all star.
14. Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (July 14)
Tom Cruise returns as IMF Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the seventh installment in the Mission Impossible film series in July 2023.
Very little is known about the movie so far asides from the fact that like other Mission Impossible movies, Dead Reckoning promises thrilling action, daring stunts and of course higher stakes.
Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhimes, all reprise their roles with Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementiff, and Esai Morales all joining the cast.
15. Oppenheimer (July 21)
Christopher Nolan assembled an Avengers-esque team of A-listers for his latest title Oppenheimer, a biopic about famous physicist Robert Oppenheimer. The movie takes us through his life during the Manhattan Project and his contributions to the creation of the atomic bomb.
Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh, all-star among several others.
16. The Marvels (July 28)
The Marvels, MCU’s third and final entry for 2023 will see a mini team-up of Marvels.
Set after the events of Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau begin swapping places every time they use their powers. They must team-up to determine why.
Brie Larson, Imani Vellani, Teyonah Parris, and Samuel L. Jackson are all billed to appear.
17. The Nun 2 (September 8)
The terrifying Valek makes her return in The Nun 2 in 2023.
Bonnie Aarons returns to play Valek, while Tassia Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet also reprise their roles as Sister Irene and Frenchie. Micheal Chavez (The Curse of La Llorona, Conjuring 3) directs.
18. Dune 2 (November 3)
Denis Villeneuve returns with the second installment of the Dune film series come November 2023. In it, we see Paul Atreides unite with Chani and the Fremen while still seeking revenge for the demise of his family. Faced with a choice between love and fate, he must prevent a terrible future only he can see.
Timothee Chlalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson are joined by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken, amongst others.
19. The Hunger Games: The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes (November 17)
The spin-off of the Hunger Games film series debuts in November 2023, exploring the life of an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow before he became the
asshat tyrant we all know from the original movies.
It stars the likes of Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Rachel Zelger, Tom Blyth, and Ashley Liao.
20. Wonka (December 15)
Timothee Chalamet stars as the young Willy Wonka in a story focused on how he met the Oompa-Loompas in one of his earliest adventures.
Paul King (Paddington) directs while Rowan Atkinson, Matt Lucas, and Olivia Colman star alongside Chalamet.
21. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25)
The King of Atlantis returns in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom where he teams up with an unlikely ally to save Atlantis and the plant.
James Wan retains his role as director while Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II all reprise their roles from the first film.
22. Rebel Moon (TBA)
Rebel Moon directed by Zach Snyder also debuts in 2023, although no official release date has been announced.
The epic space opera film stars Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon, Hounson, Jena Malone, and Anthony Hopkins.
