24 Hours Until ‘King of Boys: The Return of The King’ Premieres

King Of Boys2 1

The long anticipated sequel to the hugely successful Nigerian film King of Boys will be premiering on Netflix tomorrow, Friday, August 27.

Unlike the first instalment which debuted in theatres, King of Boys 2: The Return of The King is exclusive to Netflix as a 7-episode series. The news was met with plenty of excitement from fans when it broke, as many hold the prequel in high esteem and have touted it to be the best Nigerian content on Netflix.

Ahead of its weekend release, here are a few things you should know know about King of Boys: The Return of The King:

Production Timeline

Shooting commenced around September 2020 and ended on the 2nd of November, meaning principal photography lasted about 3 months.

Script

The script for King of Boys 2: The Return of The King is more than 200 pages. Given this, it’s no surprise it was eventually turned into a 7-part series.

Return of Makanaki

Reminisce returns as Makanaki. Maka was the chief antagonist in the KOB 1 and met his waterloo at the hands of Odogwu Malay (played by Illbliss) before the film ended, or so we thought. Odogwu had become an ally of the at-large Eniola Salami and had the first task of killing Makanaki to climb up the ladder of kings. He seemingly put numerous bullets in Maka’s body so it’s exciting to see how the filmmakers resurrect his character and fit him into this next chapter.

A Brief Reveal on the Making of KOB2

New Faces

Alongside seasoned Nollywood actress Nse Ikpe-Etim, Charles “Charly Boy” Oputa, Chioma “Chigul”, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and winner of the 2020 King of Boys Stay Home Challenge Tope Olowoniyan are some of the confirmed new additions to the cast.

Kemi Salami’s Possible Return

There is no info yet about Kemi Salami’s, Eniola’s adopted daughter (Adesuwa Etomi-Wellington) return. However, it might just be one of the biggest revelations of the sequel, and many fans have clamoured for it. After all, if Makanaki is coming back, why can’t Kemi also return?

Darker Plot

With elements of spirituality and dark magic sprinkled all over its trailers and behind the scenes revelations, KOB 2 will follow a darker and more twisted plot than the prequel. We know for sure that after all her service and loyalty in KOB1, Eniola is no longer waiting for anybody to hand her her luck at becoming a successful politician. She’s taking matters into her hands now and is in the running for the Lagos state gubernatorial elections. Whether she wins that election will depend on how she’s able to use her pawns and forge strong alliances with the other powers that be. But like we’ve come to know her, Eniola Salami will always, somehow, manage to be an outlier. Expect massive twists and turns on that note.

Only Netflix members can watch King of Boys: The Return of The King from Friday, August 27.
