Hollywood Reporter recently broke the news that a new Game of Thrones sequel series is currently in development at HBO and that Kit Harrington is set to reprise his role as Jon Snow in it.
This sequel series is going to be set after the events of the main show and isn’t directly connected to House of the Dragon, the prequel series that tells the story of a civil war within House Targaryen, premiering this August unless time travel is looking to find its way into this G.R.R.M. universe.
Not a lot of fans were happy with the way Jon Snow’s story ended; in fact, the entirety of the 8th and final season of Game of Thrones continues to receive bashing from fans even though it’s been more than three years since the show concluded. On how the series intends to proceed with Jon Snow, who clearly isn’t at the peak of his popularity as he once was, remains to be seen.
The spin-off series is said to still be in early development stages, so there’s always the chance that it won’t take off.
This spin-off development news brings the number of Game of Thrones projects currently in the works to seven, including House of the Dragon.
HBO’s other live-action GOT prequels in various stages of development are:
- 10,000 Ships (a.k.a. Nymeria) with showrunner Amanda Segel,
- 9 Voyages (a.k.a. The Sea Snake) with showrunner Bruno Heller, and
- Dunk and Egg with showrunner Steve Conrad.
There are also three animated prequel projects, including The Golden Empire, which is set in the China-inspired land of Yi Ti.
