After 13 years, Law Abiding Citizen officially has a sequel in the works.
Starring Gerard Butler in the titular lead role, the 2009 movie followed the life of Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler), an honorable family man, until the day his wife and daughter are murdered in a home invasion. He hopes for justice, but a rising prosecutor named Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) cuts a deal with one of the killers in exchange for testimony. Ten years later, that man is found dead and Shelton coolly admits his guilt. Then he hands Rice an ultimatum: Fix the broken legal system or suffer the consequences.
Returning for this sequel are producer Lucas Foster, screenwriter Kurt Wimmer, and Gerard Butler and his G-Base partner Alan Siegel reprising their roles as producers.
Talking about the sequel, Lucas Foster said:
“I am delighted to partner with Rob, Mike and Village Roadshow Pictures, together with my frequent creative partner Kurt Wimmer, to revisit these great characters and this compelling topic which seems even more relevant today than when we made the original film. We’re going to blow your mind… again.”
Foster’s filmography is an impressive one. He’s produced acclaimed films over the years including Man on Fire, Jumper, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He most recently produced Morbius and Ford v Ferrari; the latter was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning two.
There’s no word on the plot, cast, or which characters will be returning for the sequel yet.
The first Law Abiding Citizen grossed ~$126 million against a $53 million budget.
