Eragon made its live-action debut in a 2006 movie that was panned by fans and critics for being an unfaithful adaptation of the source novels. 16 years later, it looks like Hollywood is finally ready to patch things up.
Disney+ recently announced that the popular fantasy novel following the titular character will be getting new life as a TV series on the streaming service.
Author of the Eragon novels, Christopher Paolini is expected to serve as co-showrunner on this project.
One of the issues cited for the 2006 movie’s failure was that it had the unsurprising misfortune of combining a low budget with time constraints for the entire production phase. With Paolini’s involvement in this remake, and Disney’s deep pockets now, that may be the last we ever get those two excuses.
In a world that’s filled with streaming services looking to have their own mega-hit, Eragon may just be Disney+’s answer to HBO’s Game of Thrones and Netflix’s The Witcher.
No official release date has been announced for the Eragon TV show yet.
