Nigerian entertainment magnate Bright Okpocha aka Baskemouth, has got a lot on his hands. Fresh from welcoming his fourth child, Basket has announced plans to produce a new DSTV Showmax original TV series titled Ghana Jollof.
Just recently, he began production for the second season of his mini web comedy series Papa Benji, with expanded partnership and cast. The first season of the show received positive acclaim for the casting and Barbershop-esque debates of contemporary Nigerian issues. Basketmouth, late Sound Sultan, Buchi The Comedian, Real Warri Pikin, Nedu Wazobia, Maleke, Broda Shaggi, Jemima Osunde and many more were part of the ensemble cast of season one, and many would likely return for the second instalment.
In addition to announcing the new project, Ghana Jollof, Basketmouth has also issued a call for auditions. However, auditions are only open to Ghanaians who reside either in Lagos or Accra, Ghana.
“Ghanaians are our next door neighbours and both countries have always been intertwined in both music and movies. I believe in the mutual growth of the entertainment industry for both countries, I’m also incredibly passionate about the discovery and promotion of new talent and with Showmax at the forefront of promoting local African content, it is my belief that we’re set to unleash incredible new talent.”
“For those wondering why we went with Ghana Jollof, you’ll just have to watch the show and find out,” the producer said about the development.
