Wrestler turned actor, Dave Bautista has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last appearance as Drax the Destroyer in the MCU as he has decided not to return for any future projects.
Bautista first appeared as Drax the Destroyer in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, a role he’s gone on to reprise in two sequels, Avengers movies, Infinity War and Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the recent holiday special on Disney+.

Bautista confirmed his decision to leave the role behind in a profile with GQ relating the issues that came with the role and his desire to pursue more dramatic roles.
“I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
Dave Bautista isn’t the first actor to express the desire to transition from superhero films to more dramatic ones in recent times. Co-star, Zoe Saldana who plays Gamora in the MCU recently disclosed that she “wouldn’t be upset” if she never gets to play the role again after GOTG Vol. 3 sighting similar reasons as Bautista.
