Idris Elba, during an appearance on The Breakfast Club to promote his new movie Beast, revealed that his real-life daughter, Isan, didn’t talk to him for three weeks after losing out on a role in the movie. Isan Elba, the famous actor’s 20-year-old daughter from his marriage to ex-wife Danne ”Kim” Norgaard, auditioned for the role of one of his daughters in the film but didn’t get cast because “the chemistry wasn’t right for the film.”
“She wants to be an actress and she auditioned. And you know, it came down to chemistry in the end. You know, my daughter, she was great, but the relationship in the film and the relationship with my daughter was – the chemistry wasn’t right for the film, weirdly enough. My daughter didn’t talk to me for about three weeks,” Idris Elba revealed.
Will Packer, the producer of Beast, who also worked with Idris Elba on the 2014 psychological thriller film No Good Deed amongst several others told The Breakfast Club that he relayed the news to her about not getting the role.
“She was very good, very close. Idris is right, some of the nuances of that real-life relationship sometimes don’t translate on screen.”
The veteran actor said that his daughter was very gracious about not getting the role. She later attended the film’s premiere together with her father.
In Beast, Idris Elba plays the role of a widowed man who brings his two daughters to their mothers home town in South Africa after her passing. Their trip takes a different turn however when an aggressive lion tries to kill them.
Beast is currently showing in movie theatres all over the world.
