English football club Manchester United has just announced the signing of former player, and 6-time men’s FIFA player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.

After several indications that the former Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid player’s future was up in the air, with the superstar reportedly telling his excos at Juventus that he wants a fresh challenge, he has now completed his move in a matter of hours after leaving Juve’s training camp in Turn.

The news has been graced with a lot of excitement, especially for Man Utd fans, hailing the deal as one of the shrewdest transfer businesses in recent times. United’s city rivals Manchester City had been in the running too, but were put off by the signing fee requested for by Juventus.

According to reports, City were pushing to sign Ronaldo on a free after missing out on long term forward target England captain Harry Kane. However, Juventus were holding out for a £26 million signing fee, given the forward had 2 years left on his deal.

Crazy things have happened in this European football transfer window. The twists keep coming by the minute, as big players you’d think would remain with their clubs this window have switched clubs.

Ronaldo’s arc rival, Lionel Messi had earlier completed a free transfer to French giants Paris Saint Germain, a move some people cite as the incentive behind Ronaldo’s clamour for a new challenge.
