Brendan Fraser Breaks Down In Tears As Comeback Film ‘The Whale’ Receives 6-minute Standing Ovation At Venice Film Festival

Following his temporary hiatus from the movie industry, Brendan Fraser continues to warm his way back into the hearts of movie lovers this time with his latest film feature, The Whale. Fraser rose to prominence in the 90’s with film roles like George in George of the Jungle and Rick O’Connell in The Mummy Franchise, but his memorable career saw a slight decline in the early 2010’s which caused a brief hiatus from the big screens. He made is comeback with a recurring role in Showtime’s The Affair and has been rising steadily since thanks to roles in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move and HBO’s Doom Patrol.

Brendan’s latest film feature is psychological drama The Whale which sees him the play the role of a Charlie, 600-pound man who tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter whom he abandoned together with the rest of his family for his gay lover who later died. Directed by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Mother!), The Whale also stars Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, Insidious’ Ty Simpkins, Watchmen’s Hong Chau and Sathya Sridharan.

Following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, The Whale was well received by audiences who celebrated the film with a standing ovation for six whole minutes which caused Fraser to cry in appreciation. Fraser was lauded for his portrayal of Charlie with some branding it an Oscar worthy performance.

 Despite the sudden cancellation of Batgirl, roles in upcoming films like Martin Scorsese’s Killer of the Flower Moon, comedy film Brothers and the soon to be released The Whale continues to ensure Fraser’s return as a household name in Hollywood.

The Whale will be hitting theatres come December 9.
