Author of the Bridgerton book series Julia Quinn has praised the show’s newcomer Simone Ashley’s performance as Kate Sharma, adding that viewers will warm to her character.
Bridgertton season 1 broke Netflix’s viewership records when it premiered in December of 2020. The season 2 will premier on the 25th of this month and is easily one of the most anticipated shows of the year.
Although the first season’s fan-favourite lead character Rege-Jean Page will not be returning in this sophomore season, it promises to be even bigger, as the Duke of Hastings watches from the sidelines.
Bridgerton season 2 will adapt the second novel in Quinn’s historic romance book series entitled, The Viscoiunt Who Loved Me.
It will focus on Anthony Bridgerton and his quest to find a wife after watching his younger sister Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) find love in season one.

So when Anthony begins courting popular newcomer Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), he must also contend with her protective sister Kate, who doubts his intentions. As fans of the Bridgerton books know, only one Sharma sister will truly capture Anthony’s fiercely guarded heart.
Quinn is very pleased with Ashley’s work and is highly optimistic fans will agree. She said:
“A lesser actress might have allowed Kate to devolve into a Taming of the Shrew caricature, but Simone tempers Kate’s fierceness with all the vulnerability and devotion to family I worked so hard to bring to the character. Kate is a very different heroine from Daphne, but I think viewers are going to adore her. Once the world sees Simone Ashley in action, we’ll be clamouring for a Kate Sharma action figure.”
To promote the show, Netflix also released a second official trailer for the season 2, raising the buzz in the Bridgerton fandom and making sure the regency romance series remains in the conversation ahead of its March 25 exclusive release.
