The 25th annual MOBO Awards, hosted by Chunkz & Yung Filly took place at the OVO Arena in London on Wednesday, November 30.

Nine Nigerian artists were competing on the night for the MOBO Awards African Act of the Year: Burna Boy, Adekunle Gold, Tems, Asake, Rema, Oxlade, Tems, Omah Lay, and Fireboy DML, and South Africa’s Kabza De Small. Burna Boy emerged the winner, picking up his first of two awards on the night.

The Last Last singer also competed with Tems in the Best International Act category. However, with Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Drake, Jack Harlow, Jazmine Sullivan, Kendrick Lamar, Skillibeng, and Summer Walker also vying for the same award, Burna Boy beat the odds to double his awards.

Last year, it was Burna’s fellow countryman, Wizkid who noteworthily won the MOBO awards for Best International Act and Best African Act. This year, Burna has matched that feat.

Fireboy DML and Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif were among the performers who took to the stage on a big night for African music.

The MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards is an annual British music award, honoring achievements in “music of black origin,” including hip hop, grime, UK Drill, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music.
