Burna Boy Honoured Among the Greatest Musicians in New Rolling Stone Publication

Renowned American magazine Rolling Stone included Burna Boy in their recently published list of The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. The only other Nigerian to make the list is late Afrobeat pantheon Fela Kuti.

While Burna Boy is ranked in the 197th spot, Fela Kuti is 10 place higher, in the 188th spot. In the publication, Rolling Stone wrote about Burna Boy:

Nigerian cultural giant, Burna Boy is the ambassador of Afrobeats as a global movement that can feel equally at home climbing the European charts and maintaining a subtle emotional connection with past African genres like highlife. Burna’s voice is sweet like caramel, but it can also soar on slickly produced tracks like his recent megahit “Last Last,” or the 2019 gem “Anybody,” amped up by deep bass accents and insanely sophisticated polyrhythms. His vocal lines find inspiration in everything from hip-hop and R&B to hooky pop and dancehall — the world is his playground. —E.L.

Burna has gandered a massive Western following since the release of his 4th studio album “African Giant”. In 2021, he won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album (Twice As Tall) after narrowly missing out in 2020.

His 2022 hit single “Last Last” made Apple Music’s list of the most streamed songs in the world for 2022, and his latest project “Love, Damini” is regarded as one of Afrobeats best exports of last year.

Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin is number one, followed by Whitney Houston. Sam Cooke is third, Billie Holiday is fourth, and Mariah Carey is ranked in 5th place.
