It was a few days to Davido’s O2 Arena concert when a video clip of his pal Israel making some recitations in his native Edo language surfaced online.
It was his own O2 Arena performance rehearsal and we thought it was a joke, especially given his history with pulling of incredibly ridiculous stunts online.
During Davido’s high-octane performance at the O2, Isreal was one of the people who made a shocking cameo, donning his all white traditional Benin attire, and making a toll with a small bell.
To the awe of everyone at the show, Isreal’s earlier rehearsal was not in vain. And if there was one thing certain about his owning of the stage during the show, he had rehearsed more than once.

It was indeed a beautiful way for popular and traditional culture to intersect.
Israel, of course, hails from Edo state, Nigeria, home to the great, powerful and storied Benin empire. The Benin people are highly placed around the world for their rich heritage, spanning magic, art, architecture, and monarchy.
Many performers only dream to walk the stage of the O2, now Israel has and he’s not even an established talent. Whatever service and friendship he renders and shares with Davido, it’s a hugely admirable way to show gratitude.
