Davido and his team have announced the postponement of his Are We Africans Yet (A.W.A.Y) concert, following the demise of his son late last month. The singer had earlier on taken down some promotional posts on his Instagram page as he grieves his son.
The A.W.A.Y concert was originally scheduled to hold on November 18, 2022 at the 20K capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, where Davido was born.
However, the tragic demise of his 3-year-old son Ifeanyi David Adeleke has plunged him and his team into mourning, and now the concert has been pushed forward by a year.
The highly-anticipated show which had Afrobeats giants Mayorkun, Stonebwoy, Pheelz, Lojay, Kizz Daniel and more as part of its ensemble of supporting artists, will now hold on the 18th of November 2023, read part of a social media statement from organisers. (See below).
“We have made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone A.W.A.Y Festival until Saturday, November 18, 2023.
To all ticket buyers, your tickets will be honored for the 2023 date. We understand that you must be disappointed but we promise to come back with a bigger and better show.
Thank you for understanding and we look forward to seeing you all in the near future.”
It’s been a painful build up to the end of 2021 for Davido and his partner Chioma, but also for his fans who hoped to see the megastar perform live this holiday season as the concerts rack up. Definitely, the Stand Strong singer will need some time to heal from the shocking bereavement that befell him, and fans will be hoping for a quicker recovery than they anticipate.
