Economic Woes: DStv And GOtv Subscription Prices Go Up Again

DStv and GOtv prices – The economic reality of doing business in Nigeria today is harsh and unpredictable. A literal, practical interpretation of this is that the prices of goods bought today are subject to unceremoniously change within as little as 24 hours. No sector is exempted and no good (or service) is above reach.

Multichoice, the parent company of the popular cable TV providers DStv and GOtv, revealed in a recent statement that it’ll be the latest company to adjust its pricing to reflect this increasingly difficult reality of doing business in the country.

“In light of the rising costs of inflation and business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages to keep delighting our customers with great entertainment,” the statement read.

Come April 1, 2022, the prices of DStv and GOtv bouquets will experience an ~2.7% upward increment; a move the company has blamed on the rising costs of inflation and increasing pressure on running a business in this part of the world.

It is worthy to note, though, that the pricing for Easyview, Showmax, Add Movies, and BoxOffice will remain unchanged for 2022.

“At MultiChoice Nigeria, our mission is to deliver value to our customers by making great entertainment more accessible. We have had to review the price of our packages to keep delighting our customers with great entertainment, anytime and anywhere,” a part of the company’s official statement said.

The new DStv rates are: Premium (N21,000), Compact + (N14,250), Compact (N9,000), Confam (N5,300), Yanga (N2,950), Padi (N2,150), Business (N2,669), Xtraview + PVR access fee (N2,900)

Those of GOtv are: Gotv Max for N4,150, GOtv Jolli for N2,800, GOtv Jinja for N1,900, GOtv Lite for N900.

A small silver lining to this: Multichoice revealed customers who pay on or before their due date (before April 1, 2022) would be eligible to pay the old price.

“Also, customers who pay consistently on time (before their due dates) for a period of 12 months would also be eligible to pay the old price.

“Customers who pay for 10 months upfront on the new price will get the 11th and 12th month free,” the company said.

The company believes the new prices will enable it to serve its customers better.
