“Yahoo+” is the directorial debut of Emeka Njoku, who also doubles up as the film’s writer.
It features a modest cast, with actor Ken Erics the most popular of them all and follows the story of two childhood friends from eastern Nigeria trying to break into Nollywood but, end up succumbing to pressure and eventually turning to diabolical means to make money.
The film is littered with references to Nigerian pop culture and quick money schemes, especially the one that inspires its eponymous title, Yahoo Plus – a slang for a combination of internet fraud or other get-rich-quick-schemes and dark magic.
As the trailer reveals, there will be lots dialogues in Igbo language, violence, nudity as well as cringing scenes; one of them being where a carcass is assembled in a cooler. Guess we’d have to watch to find out if it belongs to a human or an animal.
Yahoo Plus has already won the Best Narrative Feature award at the Eastern Nigeria International Film Festival, but there’s no official date set for its release to the public yet.
