We take a look back at a throwback video of singer Emma Nyra confirming she was abused by Ubi Franklin, CEO of Made Men Music Group (MMMG). The video resurfaced on social media days after Iyanya made the claim in an interview with The Native Magazine.
On the feud between Ubi and himself, Iyanya spoke about the violent abuse Emma Nyra suffered during her stint with MMMG.
Addressing the host, Joey Akan, Iyanya said: “I played safe because I saw what he did to Emma Nyra. I saw how he oppressed her when she left him… I saw all the stunts wey him go dey do. You know how all this industry sh** dey be.”
“My own advice to Emma at the time was: “Yo, if the nigga is treating you like this, I’d support you to leave.”
It appears however that Emma Nyra opened up about the issue in an interview with HFtv in 2016, after she had left Ubi’s record label, giving some credence to recent claims by Iyanya.
Addressing the matter about 3 years ago, she didn’t quite scratch the surface but quipped that “as a woman, I took a lot. It was a tough time for me.”
“There was no repercussion because I never spoke on it…. Men in this industry and in this country never receive that much of a repercussion when it comes to female abuse. I’ve never spoken on it because I don’t want to be the face of female abuse. But one day when I feel like I’m stronger inside to speak about it, I would definitely speak about it.” she added.
