Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz or Falz The Bahd Guy, was one of the leading voices during 2020’s peaceful #EndSARS protests that culminated in the Lekki Toll shootings.
One year after the tragedy, now, in memory of all those who lost their lives during the movement, Falz led a car procession to the Lekki Toll Gate where members the Nigerian Army were alleged to have opened fire at peaceful protesters.
In a video shared to his IG page, Falz was heard stating the reason for the car procession, adding that rose flowers were being dropped on the road in tribute to death victims of police brutality and the #EndSARS protest.
Falz also spoke to members of Arise TV who were there to cover the memorial. Asked to share why he’s at the Lekki Toll Gate, he replied, “20th October 2020, armed military men came here, shot down innocent Nigerians that were protesting against police brutality. Today is one year after, we’re here to honour them, remember them.”
The interviewer continued by asking the rapper for his reaction to the fact they said no protests will take place at the Lekki Toll Gate today. Falz, who is known for his activism through his music and use of social media, replied that no one has the right to stop people from protesting in a democratic nation.
