Fascinating facts about Laycon

A glance at singer/rappers’s life, and the things that prepared Laycon to be a champion.

Before Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe a.k.a. Laycon, shot to superstardom, of course, he had a life but, he was already amassing an impressive amount of following with his craft and spirit-of-a-hustler attitude. Here are a few things to know about the Shall We Begin mastermind.

Biography and Build up To Big Brother Naija Victory

Laycon was born on the 8th of November 1993 to Ogun parents, in Lagos, Nigeria where he was raised and got his education.

He is 5ft 6in tall, and left-handed just like his father.

He began writing, not limited to song lyrics, and developed that skill further by ghost-writing for different organisations and brands.

Laycon holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the prestigious University of Lagos UniLag), where he graduated with a second-class, upper division honours. He was a good student who was able to combine his craft with his education without letting his grades suffer.

He developed his love for music and rapping at a very tender age and featured in the top 10 performers at the 2014 Coke Studio talent show at UniLag.

Laycon was among the best 10 contestants of the 2017 MTV Base Lip Sync Battle.

Laycon’s father is late. Apparently, they were not as close as Laycon would have liked, but the rapper said he was the one-that-got-away in a series of posts on Twitter. He still wishes the old man a Happy Father’s Day.

Big Brother Nigeria and Meteoric Rise

Before contesting and eventually winning the 5th edition of Nigerian reality TV show Big Brother Naija, Laycon had worked as a personal assistant to the MD and CEO of Latjum Global Nigeria Limited and the assistant director of welfare in administration and human resources at he Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, and as a sales and business development officer at Bestman Games, Ikoyi, Lagos.

As opposed to people thinking Laycon was aspiring to get tied to a label with his performance in the Big Brother house, he had an ongoing deal with Fierce Nation. In 2019, he released the song ‘Fierce’ with Chinko Ekun and Reminisce from his second EP.

He became the first BBNaija housemate of the season to be verified on Instagram, while amassing over 1 million followers. All of these while the show was still running.

Laycon was appointed a youth ambassador of Ogun state and holds a chieftaincy title from the Onipokia of Ipokia, Ogun State, Yisa Adesola Olaniyan as the Akeweje of Ipokia Kingdom, Ogun state.

He wanted to do a second degree in law, and master’s in international relations but was put-off after failing severally at securing scholarships.

Inside the BBNaija house, Laycon developed feelings for fellow housemate, Erica Ngozi Nlewedim. However, things did not work out, as she was rather drawn to another housemate, Kidwaya.

Laycon’s primary motivation for appearing in BBNaija was to gain popularity and following for his musical career. The money was secondary to him, as he revealed in a post-show interview with host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Laycon enjoys, values, and leads a private lifestyle, not allowing his personal information to spread all over the place.

As often spotted, he loves jackets and classic Yoruba attire.

He released his debut studio album, ‘Shall We Begin’ on the 30th of April 2021, with features from Mayorkun, Teni, YKB, and Terri.
