Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been charged to court by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The 10-count charge filed on Wednesday has been charged against Babachir Lawal who is the former Secretary to the Government, together with Hamidu David Lawal, Sulaiman Abubakar, Apeh John Monday, Rholavision Engineering Limited, and Johnson Technologies Limited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
All the suspects will be facing trial in the High Court in FCT, Abuja.
They are charged with fraudulent acquisition of property which is contrary to section 26 (1) (c) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under section 12 of the same act.
Babachir Lawal who had been sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari in October after he was accused of corruption had said he did well in office and had no regrets working under the President. This was said during an interview with The Sun.
Lawal was accused of giving contracts worth hundreds of millions of naira to a company he owns to remove invasive plants species from the Yobe State water channels.
Lawal had said that President Buhari would beat Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming elections. He described Atiku as a “Facebook Politician”
