In a recently published interview, Nigerian Afrobeats hotshot Fireboy DML revealed his forthcoming album Playboy will be his most carefree album yet.
Fireboy DML who rose to prominence in 2019, didn’t waste no time in establishing himself as one of the finest artists of his generation, releasing his first album Tears, Laughter, and Goosebumps in 2019 and immediately following it up with Appolo in 2020, all with great success.
In 2021, his hit single “Peru” trotted the globe, even causing the Peruvian government to take notice of what the boy from the south-western Nigerian city of Abeokuta was doing.
In the interview published recently by American monthly magazine Rolling Stone, Fireboy shared that he observed from online comments that fans regarded him as being “too serious,” hence he intends to correct that by making his upcoming third studio album Playboy more playful and dauntless.
“Like, omo, I just want to live my life and stop overthinking stuff. “I’ve heard people say online that Fireboy is too serious, and maybe that’s the vibe I gave off from the first two albums. But this one is about loosening up. Enjoy your life. There’s a vibe to it. It’s cohesive as an album should be. That’s what matters. I’m excited about this moment. I like what I hear when I listen to the album every night.”
As work continues on Fireboy’s Playboy, the gradual roll out has already begun with the release of the project’s eponymous lead single “Playboy.”
Certainly, Playboy is one of the most anticipated Nigerian albums releasing later this year. If it eventually releases this mid year or summer, then we have a delightfully packed roaster to look forward to, with the likes of Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid also planning to drop list plays.
