Fireboy DML has joined the tiny list of Nigerian singers to sell more than one million copies of a single in the United States. According to reports, his 2021 global smash hit ‘Peru (Remix)’ has now been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The song features English singer Ed Sheeran, who significantly contributed to its global success. Funny enough, a few weeks after the song dropped, the Peruvian government even joked that the song’s title has a Peruvian heritage. As well as holding a record for selling more than 1 million units in the US, ‘Peru (Remix)’ is one of a few Afrobeats/Nigerian songs to make it to the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
