Five Modern Telenovelas Suited for Everyone

Telenovelas have always had a way of capturing hearts of hopeless romantics, and even more, those that live their love stories through the lives of the characters. However, with time telenovelas have evolved from the classic love stories with multiple triangles to having deeper plots. 
With stories on Law, Fashion and Politics, it has seemingly transcended into a new era with a wider audience. Now appealing to not only the romance lovers, but to all those who want to enjoy a good show.

Ahead are five modern telenovelas appealing to every audience;

Law of the heart (La ley del corazón) 

The story centers around a successful law firm specialized in family and partly criminal law. It featured the love triangles, twists and turns between the firms’ lawyers and how their personal lives were often mirrored in the legal cases they are defending. It currently airs every day at 8pm on Dstv, channel 118.

Cast: Luciano D’Alessandro, Laura Londoño, Iván López, Mabel Moreno and many others. 

Betty in New York (Betty en New York) 

Based on the 1999 Colombian telenovela, “Betty the ugly one”, Betty in New York revolves around the life of titular character Beatriz Aurora Rincón. Despite being intelligent and capable, Betty lacks the physical appearance to land her the job of her dreams. However, she eventually accepts a job below her abilities, as a secretary to the president of a fashion company. She has to put up with being ridiculed on a daily basis and even worse, she ends up falling in love with her soon to be married boss, Armando!

Cast: Elyfer Torres, Erick Elias, Sabrina Seara and Aarón Díaz.

My perfect family (Mi familia perfecta) 

This series follows the story of the Guerrero family, five siblings struggling to achieve the American dream and get ahead after the death of their father and the deportation of their mother to Mexico. Although, chaotic, the Guerreros demonstrate how united they are as a family in overcoming different obstacles faced by immigrants in the United States.

Cast: Jorge Luis Moreno, Sabrina Seara, Gala Montes, Laura Flores. 

Iron rose (La Doña) 

The plot revolves around the infamous Altagracia Sandoval, a woman who since her teenage years had to take care of her little sister and get ahead without her parents’ help. Altagracia saw her parents brutally murdered along with her boyfriend by a group of five men called the Monkeys, that also raped her. Now a grown, fierce and powerful woman, she embarks on a mission to avenge all those who wronged her. 

Cast: Aracely Arámbula, Danna Paola, José María Galeano, Andrea Martí.

Part of me (En otra piel) 

Part of me was based on the popular telenovela, Second Chance. However, this time it involved two women, Monica Serrano(a renowned pianist) and Adriana Aguilar(waitress). They both shared a tragic and supernatural destiny that bind them together even after death. After they both die, Monica comes back in Adriana’s body to defend her children and seek justice after being betrayed by her husband and ambitious niece. 

Cast: Maria Elisa Camargo, Jorge Luis Pila, David Chocarro, Vanessa Villela.
