Director and writer Damilola Orimogunje’s “For Maria Pataki” is now streaming on Netflix.

The film stars Gabriel Afolayan and Meg Otanwa as Afolabi and Derin, a couple who struggle with the effects of postpartum depression after going through a complicated delivery. Happy to become a father, Afolabi finds out on their way home that his wife, Derin is not as excited as, well, most mothers would be. She ultimately begins to withdraw from her family and the people around her, and as she does, Afolabi must confront the repercussions of the events surrounding their daughter, Maria’s birth.

“For Maria Ebun Pataki” released earlier in 2020, and opened to generally positive reviews and picked up several accolades. It is a breakthrough Nigerian film with a finely balanced take on postpartum depression and mental illness in most African societies..

It’s great to have it streaming now on Netflix, where more people can have access to it. Definitely worth your time.
