Funke Akindele might have recently given up acting and filmmaking for politics but it hasn’t stopped her from dominating the Nigerian box office game with her latest project Battle On Buka Street.
It has been revealed that the comedy-drama film has set a new record for the Nigerian movie scene as the biggest ever single day opening, earning ₦135 million at the box office on 11th December.
The project also remains the number-one Nollywood film for the second successive week.



The deputy governor aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took to social media yesterday, 27th December to express her elation, appreciating fans for their unwavering support and for visiting the cinema in droves to enjoy her film.
“Work hard! Pray hard!
Stay positive!!! Iyanu ma sele!!!” she wrote.
Battle On Buka Street premiered over two weeks ago on 11th December in cinemas nationwide taking viewers through the rivalry of two women Titi and Lade who yearn to be crowned the ‘King of Buka Street’, a title conferred to the best local food vendor in the region.
Directed by Funke herself, the film features an ensemble cast including the likes of Mercy Johnson, Sola Sobowale, Gloria Young, Nkem Owoh, and Femi Jacobs, to mention but a few.
