One of the most daunting challenges the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced in its 14-year history is deciding how best to proceed with the Black Panther franchise following news of Chadwick Boseman’s death back in 2020.
Boseman, until his death, was the latest breakout star of the MCU, providing an anchored, emotional performance in a world that’s clearly over-the-top.

Ryan Coogler, director of 2018’s Black Panther, in which Boseman starred, together with Marvel Studios made the difficult decision to not recast Boseman but find a creative way to continue the story with the rest of the cast members he left behind. That decision has led us to this day, with the unveiling of the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The trailer is a gloomy, deeply emotional one. From the dialogues we hear, it’s clear T’Challa is gone in-universe, but as they say, the show must always go on for the living. Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) both look set to pick up the mantle and continue the legacy. With war looming with Namor and the water people of Atlantis, Wakanda will need all the strength it can muster at this time. Who better to lead than these two?
