Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is an awe-inspiring commentary on ageism, lust, the intricacies of sex work, pleasure, etc. Think the whole 9 yards of taboo topics typically shied away from but this time handled with the right amount of sincerity.
The impact of what ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande‘ tries to do for the sex-working industry remains to be seen in the real world, but for what it’s worth, it does make a good case for standing up against most of the perpetuated stereotypes, especially the famous one that everyone who participates in sex hustling must automatically hate their life, job, and everything else in between.
It’s a brave movie; masterfully written, tastefully directed, and expertly brought to life by powerful performances from Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack. It’s compelling to watch, and I won’t be forgetting it in a hurry.
Here’s my favourite quote from the whole movie: “Pleasure is a wonderful thing. It’s something we should all have.” – Nancy Stokes (Emma Thompson).
