Kayode Kasum is currently one of the hardest workers in Nollywood. Technically not his latest film, but Soólè is his most recently buzzing one since its Netflix debut earlier this month. To think during its filming Kasum and members of his crew stared death in the face is chilling.
In a recent chat with Inside Nollywood, Kayode Kasum revealed his ordeal in the hands of some men of the underworld while filming Soólè on location:
“If you are going to make a film about a bus going to Enugu, you actually need footage from the road going to Enugu. So I selected a team of ten, and we went to Enugu. We’re shooting cutaways on the road that goes to Enugu with drones, cameras, and everything. And we were stopped by gunmen on bikes that chased after us in the middle of the night, shooting at the bus. As if the film we wanted to shoot happened to us, but we got out safely.”
Horrifying, to say the least., this further lends credence to some of the unspoken things Nigerian filmmakers go through to bring their art to life.
Kayode Kasum is well-known for movies like Oga Bolaji (2018), Sugar Rush (2019), and Ile Owo (2022). Soólè was released in theatres in 2021 and recently made its Netflix debut.
