Singer and songwriter, Omawunmi Megbele, better known as Omawunmi recently opened up on how she was a single mother for four years before her husband decided to marry her. She revealed this yesterday, June 3rd on “Your View” show which airs on TVC.
The singer gained prominence in 2007 after she emerged first runner up in the music contest, Idols West Africa.
During the interview, she laid emphasis on how she chose not to get married until she and her husband were “good and ready”.
She said: “I was a baby mama for four years before papa Kamillah decided he wanted to marry me. I decided then that I didn’t want to marry until we were good and ready.”
The topic of conversation – Baby mama culture and it’s acceptability in the society stemmed from Reno Omokri’s nuggets on Twitter which he dropped earlier in May on having zero sympathy for single mothers except they were raped or widowed. Read here
In response to Reno Omokri’s tweet, Omawunmi said: “That man, whoever he is, should channel that conversation to the men.”
The 39-year old, mother of one further spoke on the irresponsibility of some fathers and added: “We find rarely men that are fathers, they can procreate and give birth to children and then leave the children for women to groom and nurture.”
