The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Davido’s uncle Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the just concluded Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke defeated arch-rival Gboyega Oyetola the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls which held on Saturday, July 16.
Collation and announcement of results began at midnight lasting until early hours of Sunday, July 17 at the INEC office in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to results announced by INEC in the early hours of Sunday, July 17, APC and Oyetola won 13 local government areas out of a potential 30, while the PDP candidate emerged the victor in the remaining 17 LGAs in the state.
Davido had been a major convener of support for Adeleke, spearheading the former senator’s campaign both online and onsite.
Adeleke polled 403,371 votes while Oyetola of the APC polled 375,027.
Meanwhile, there were 13 other candidates that took part in the election including Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party, Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party, and the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who contested under the platform of Labour Party.
PDP in a statement noted that the victory of the party at the poll is a product of mass mobilisation and grand coalition of people of Osun state against bad governance and insensitive leadership.
