Media Rants reported earlier how popular Nigerian music prodigy, Bad Boy Timz was arrested in Abuja by his record label, Anonymous Records on May 19, 2021. Reports confirmed Timz had breached certain clauses in his contract with Anonymous. Since then, other allegations and claims have been flying in from the artist’s camp and that of the label, revealing just how damaged their relationship had become in little more than 2-years. So, what exactly are the allegations about?
On the latest edition of Pulse Nigeria’s Facts Only, all the juicy details involved in the dispute were revealed by Pulse Nigeria’s Motolani Alake. According to Motolani, all the issues revolve around the contract signed between Timz and Anonymous Records, and it is not only the artist’s camp that’s responsible for not holding up to their end of the bargain.
The touchpoints of the grievance from Timz’s camp allegedly include a lack of provision for artist’s transportation, accommodation, recording budget, and styling. However, Anonymous Records maintains they met all the clauses in the contract. Motolani weighed in on the situation, saying that while he doesn’t feel the signed contract is bad – because he’s seen worse – the dispute resembles one borne out of a misinterpretation and miscommunication between the two parties.
Facts Only also revealed that before the arrest, both legal teams had been at loggerheads, but Timz setting up another label with his parents as directors, and signing a mini deal with a foreign company proved to be the final straw and what subsequently led to his arrest in Abuja. Motolani ended the episode by advising both parties to avoid the court and rather take more amicable routes to resolve the dispute. He cited several other examples of why courts are not the best including how popular Nigerian singer, Kizz Daniel still suffers the aftermath of a label dispute.
