After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Iyanya seems to be coming back into the spotlight. The ‘Kukere’ star was an MTN Project Fame winner and enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame after his glittery performances at the hotly-contested talent show.
He went on to drop three albums: the impressive My Story (2009), Desire (2015), and Applaudise (2015). However, only his debut album dazzled. Afterward, his career was plagued by inconsistency and a major label dispute between him and his employers at Made Men Music Group (MMMG).
But the Headies Artist of the Year winner in 2013 looks to be gaining momentum again, dropping several cool singles in the past two years. His latest effort, ‘One Side (Remix)’ featuring Mayorkun and Tekno is perhaps the best of the bunch. The Sugarvybz-produced record is a fine reminder of Iyanya’s unique endowment. As well as Iyanya’s soft croons from “Mr Oreo,” his collaborators make ‘One Side’ a mashup of timelines and sparkle with their voguish takes, especially Mayorkun.
Iyanya also ensured he supported the song’s momentum with an OluTheWave-directed video, which premiered on Wednesday, February 22. The video has now been viewed 1 million times and counting as of the time of this report. Happy with his resurgence, Iyanya celebrated the win on social media and encouraged fans to watch it.
