Music mogul and icon, Jay Z, has hired a lawyer to handle UK born rapper, 21 Savage, deportation case.
Accoridng to TMZ, Jay Z feels that 21 Savage’s arrest and detention is “an absolute travesty and that her should be released so he can be with his kids. Jay Z hired Alex Spiro to assist and serve as the lawyer for the rapper’s proposed deportation.
“We are not going to stop until he is released , bonded out or in front of a judge…what we have here is someone who overstayed their visa with an application pending for 4 years – not a convicted criminal that needs to be detained and removed but, by all accounts a wonderful person, father, and entertainer who has a marijuana offence which was vacated and sealed”, Spiro said to TMZ.
Spiro will be working together with LaPolt, 21 Savage’s lawyer, to win his case.
According to Pulse Nigeria, 21 Savage had U visa permit pending for 4 years before he reapplied for one in 2017, which led to a background check that discovered his visa expired, therefore triggering his arrest.
21 Savage’s Deportation Case
Atlanta based rapper, Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph aka 21 Savage, who is a British citizen, was arrested by US officials due to expired visa.
According to BBC News, the U visa he applied for is for victims of crime, after his lawyers said he survived a shooting in 2013.
The rapper’s legal team said he arrived the U.S in 1999 form the U.K when he was seven years old. However, the USA Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) service said the artiste arrived in 2005 at the age of twelve and overstayed his visa. 21 Savage’s lawyers concede that the 26-year-old doesn’t have the correct documents, but said they expired when he was a child, “through no fault of his own”.
Jay Z, alongside Cardi B, Meek Mill, and Offset have called out for the release of the artiste.
21 Savage is nominated for two GRAMMY awards at this weekend’s ceremony, including record of the year for the chart topping-track Rockstar with fellow rapper Post Malone.
