Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Supernatural and The Walking Dead alum is the latest actor to join the cast of Amazon Prime superhero television series The Boys.
The hit television series developed by Eric Kripke (also developed Supernatural) based on the comic of the same name explores a world where superheroes exist and are managed by megacorporation Vought. Karl Urban plays the lead role of Billy Butcher who together with his small band of misfits fight to expose Vought and its superheroes for the corrupt beings they are. The series also features Anthony Starr, Jack Quaid, Giancarlo Esposito, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chance Crawford and Simon Pegg amongst others.
Season 3 of the show saw the addition of one supernatural alum, Jensen Ackles in the role of Soldier Boy, a renowned supe kept cryogenically frozen since the Cold War, a role for which he received praise for his performance.
As filming for season 4 kicks off, The Boys announced on their official twitter page yesterday that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joining the cast of the show in a yet to be disclosed recurring role. The shows creators attempt to get Dean Morgan on the show for season 3 fell through due to the actor’s scheduling conflicts with The Walking Dead. See the announcement below;
Sometime in May, Eric Kripke expressed doubts as to whether they’d be able to get the actor on the show for a cameo appearance as Jeffrey Dean Morgan together with actress Laura Cohen would be leading the new spin off show The Walking Dead – Dead City, but things seemed to have worked out after all as he would be getting more than just a cameo appearance as originally planned.
With Jeffrey Dean Morgan being no stranger to the superhero business having played the role of The Comedian in Zach Snyder’s Watchmen, it would be interesting to what unscrupulous acts he gets into in The Boys. Is he going to be another nefarious supe or is he going to be on the good side of things for a change? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
