Veteran Nigerian actor Jim Iyke revealed in a recent interview that his feud with actor Uche Maduagwu, which culminated in a physical bout was actually staged and that he was paid for it.
The incident took place sometime in August 2021, shortly after Uche Maduagwu, who is renowned for trolling other celebrities online, questioned the sources of Jim Iyke’s wealth. The Nollywood ‘Bad Boy’ was seemingly having none of it, and tracked down Maduagwu for some confrontation.
However, in a recent chat with Chude Jideonwo of the WithChude show, Iyke revealed the brawl was a stunt staged to create awareness for his then upcoming movie ‘Bad Comments.”
“It was orchestrated. I wanted them to paint a picture of what it is like in the social media ecosystem. I can orchestrate anything and you would perceive it. It is about perception,” Revealed Jim Iyke.
“That would show you that, that world is so real. There is nothing that exists in that world. I called the man, we had an understanding, paid very well for it, wrote the script, called Moses in and we shot it,” he revealed.
“I’m about to release the ending of it. I cannot be that stupid. I can never make that mistake. I even called my sister the day before we shot it and said it would backfire and she said no it won’t.”
He added that the stunt had more positive effects on the awareness for ‘Bad Comment,’ despite spending about 25-million naira to promote it.
Not sure if that’s such a good way to promote an upcoming movie but, certainly, nothing wrong with thinking outside the box as long as no one gets hurt. ‘Bad Comments’ released later on August 27, and has raked in over 66-million naira, putting it on number 34 of the top 100 grossing Nollywood films of all time according to Wikipedia.
