Johnny Drille shared a new song and performance video for “How Are You My Friend” on Thursday, October 13.
Drille’s songs have often provided a medium for people to convey their deepest emotions– “How Are You My Friend” — appeals in similar manner. It’s a ballad that seeks to bare the joys of genuine friendship: sharing, loving, and caring.
“I know sometimes e be like say nobody send you/ that one na lie/ I dey for you my friend” he sings over the Don Jazzy produced instrumental.
In an era when life is super-fast and the hustle to “make it” stretch the bonds of friendship thin, with most people inclining to reclusion despite all the tools available for us to connect, Drille’s words affirm there is joy in genuine friendship.
He continues: “Padi no vex for me say I never call you since,” acknowledging that true friendship manifests in the form of sacrifices, and is seeking-out. But even when we fall short of being there, accountability and a simple apology are usually the tools we need to rebuild the bridges of lost connections.
