The sequel which is reported to be a musical will see Joaquin Phoenix return as “The Clown Prince of Crime”, Zazie Beats reprise her role as Sophie Dumond, and Lady Gaga play psychiatrist turned criminal, Harley Quinzel.

Brendan Gleeson who is a two-time recipient of the British Independent Film Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award is known for playing wizard Alastor “Mad Eye” Moody in the Harry Potter movies and Walter “Monk” McGinn in Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York amongst others.

Joker was released in 2019 to critical and financial success, grossing over a billion dollars in the world box office. The sequel officially titled Joker: Foil à Deux (French for “Madness for Two”) will see Phillips return as director and co-writer alongside Scott Silver.

Not much is known about the film’s plot so far asides for it being a musical and it taking place in Arkham Asylum which the Joker was being transported to in the final moments of the first film. Though the original film was loosely based on the standalone comic Batman: The Killing Joke, Phillips has always reiterated that they never turn to existing media for inspirations so we can expect the sequel to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
