Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk has announced he’s developing a feature film titled Killing Old People Club. The new film is inspired by a novel penned by a revered Italian intellectual and essayist, Umberto Eco.
The South Korean filmmaker says the project will be “another controversial film.” And has opined that the movie will have so much violence in it, that Squid Game’s first season might become jealous.
Squid Game was a resounding hit for Netflix and Hwang Dong-hyuk upon its release in fall 2021. Hwang has revealed that the development of his feature film, Killing Old People Club, wouldn’t signal the end of Squid Game’s anticipated second season. The critically acclaimed creator said he will go back home to South Korea to write the second season of Squid Game, and hopefully premiere it on Netflix by the end of 2024.
If Squid Game’s success is anything to go by – #1 in 94 countries, >1.65 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days, ~$1 billion dollars in value against a production budget of only $21 million – then I think everyone should be really excited for Killing Old People Club.
