Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson cast as ‘King of Pop’
Lionsgate has officially greenlit a biographical drama titled Michael, detailing the life and triumphs of the world’s greatest popstar, the late Michael Jackson.
Michael is said to look into every aspect of the late popstar’s life, from his ‘Jackson 5’ days to his most legendary performances which helped him become the world’s greatest entertainer.
The upcoming biopic which will be directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Magnificent Seven) and written by Skyfall writer John Logan has also found its on-screen ‘King of Pop’ in none other than the late popstar’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson.
The announcement of Jaafar’s casting was made by Fuqua on Instagram. The director shared a picture of Jaafar in costume, striking one of Michael’s legendary poses.
The upcoming film’s producer, Graham King who also produced the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody added in an official statement:
“I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael. It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role. I am beyond thrilled that he has come on board to portray his uncle and cannot wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson.”
Filming for Michael is expected to begin later this year.
