The world is such a global village now, so much that it takes staying within the walls of a room to tour different cities, reach out to different people, and even collaborate on a song. Thanks to the internet and digitization.
American rapper Moneybagg Yo took advantage of the internet on Tuesday 2nd November to shoot his shot at Nigerian singing sensation Tems, saying he wants a collaboration with her ASAP.
Both Moneybagg Yo and Tems have enjoyed incredibly successful 2021 campaigns. Moneybagg Yo’s April album A Gangsta’s Pain became his first project to achieve No. 1 status on the Billboard 200 chart, with 11 of the songs from the album and subsequent deluxe landing on the Billboard Hot 100.
Meanwhile, Tems took a big leap forward in her career, making her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her guest appearance on Nigerian Afrobeat star Wizkid’s explosive song, Essence. Essence undeniably became one of the most talked about songs in the US during the summer, scoring so many sales, streams, and hype.
While Justin Bieber requested for a feature on the track, artists like Da Baby made their own cover of Essence. The record eventually peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has been certified Platinum by RIAA.
Tems also scored two major collaborations with Drake on his Sept. 3 album Certified Lover Boy, linking up with the Toronto rapper on the track “Fountains.” Tems also added R&B star Brent Faiyaz to her Sept. 14 EP If Orange Was A Place for the song “Found.”
Now that Tems has bridged the gap between Nigeria and America for herself with these stellar performances, she’s practically opened the door for more work with top American artists. So, this was the perfect time for Moneybagg Yo to inquire about linking up with Tems.
While we eagerly await Tems’ response to Moneybagg Yo’s plea, we can’t help but imagine the outcome of a potential Moneybagg Yo and Tems collab.
