The Nigeria National Awards 2022 gala went down last night (Tuesday, October 11) at the State House in Abuja. Among high-flying Nigerians to receive honours on the night were singers Teni “the Entertainer” Akpata, 2Baba, and Burna Boy. However, it’s Teni’s acceptance move that’s gotten the most attention from spectators.
Although we find nothing controversial about the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) Award acceptance footage which has been making the rounds, some conservative Yoruba people have slandered the “Billionaire” singer for rather not maintaining the Yoruba salutation code of conduct for a woman, towards President Buhari who presented the award.
In the video footage, Teni sported a black suit, and dark shades as she went to receive her plaque and have a photograph with the President. According to fans, except for when the camera flashes, she didn’t seem excited.
Fans who have not been impressed with Buhari’s administration have, however, jumped in to defend the singer, lauding her for the emotionless cameo. Check out some of the hard takes on Twitter over the issue footage below.
