Netflix is, reportedly, set to launch a new feature that’ll charge you more money for sharing your login details with someone else.
According to a blog post made by Chengyi Long, Director of Product Innovation at Netflix, this move, which is the streamer’s latest attempt to curb illicit password sharing, will first launch in three countries – Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.
Long says the streaming company will allow customers who typically share their accounts with people outside their household to do so “easily and securely, while also paying a bit more.”
For now, Long claims the new option may or may not expand beyond the three markets they’re using for the piloting phase, but brace yourselves. If it works, it’s only a matter of time before it spreads and gets to us here at Netflix Naija.
With more than 222 million active users, Netflix is currently the most popular streaming service in the world.
