American rappers NIcki Minaj and Joe Budden have both declared Wizkid’s smashing hit song “Essence” as the song of the year.
Budden and Minaj made the revelation during the Slaughterhouse rapper’s web series where he holds a conversation with other celebrities.
Although the original song featuring Tems released in October 2020, the fourth record on Wizkid’s fourth studio album “Made IN Lagos,” a remix of the song was released in 2021, with Canadian singer Justing Bieber joining Wizkid and Tems on the record.
The original song entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, whereas the remix peaked at No. 11 on the chart.
“Essence” has been certified multi certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
It is also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Global Performance category. Meanwhile “Made In Lagos” is favourite to the 2022 Grammy award for Best Global Album.
However, Budden and Nicki think “Essence” should win the big category which is Song of The Year.
“We need people on the Grammy board that know that ‘Essence’ was song of the year,” said Budden, with Nicki affirming and adding that perhaps they too should have their own Grammy board.
