Popular female rapper and queen of rap, Nicki Minaj, announced via Twitter that she is pulling out of this year’s BET Awards and BET Experience, where she was set to perform as a headliner.
She made this announcement on Monday, 11th of February, 2019.
“Young Money will no longer be a part of the BET Experience or award show,”
she tweeted. “Summer tour dates dropping soon” The decision came one day after BET seemingly shaded the rapper in a tweet celebrating rival Cardi B’s history-making Grammys win for best rap album on Sunday night.
“Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront,”
the since-deleted tweet from the network read, linking to an article on BET.com about Cardi’s award.
Cardi B is also set to headline the BET Experience in June alongside Migos.
As fan reactions rolled in, Minaj retweeted some of the shadiest responses while also urging disappointed Barbz to get a refund for their BET Experience tickets. According to Minaj’s tweet referencing Young Money as a whole, it appears that Lil Wayne will also be dropping out of the live event — where he was listed as a headliner with the female rapper.
Minaj later followed up her initial tweet by sending a message thanking fans for their support of her decision. She tweeted:
” I can’t thank you guys enough for all the love & support you continue to show me,”
“To everyone who said something sweet, thank you. Whether I read it or not, I felt it. From the bottom of my heart. I love you so much. So so so soooo much. Stay tuned.”
She also took aim at Ken Ehrlich — piggybacking off of Ariana Grande’s call-out of the Grammys producer last week — to claim that Ehrlich was the reason she has never won a Grammy, despite 10 nominations (including two for best rap album in 2011 and 2015).
“I pissed off the same man Ariana just called out for lying,” Minaj tweeted. “Grammy producer KEN. I was bullied into staying quiet for 7 years out of fear. But I’ll tell my fans the REAL on the next episode of #QueenRadio they deserve the truth. Also, CONGRATS to everyone who won last night.”
BET Apologizes to Nicki Minaj
The BET network has apologised, after Nicki Minaj cancelled her appearance at a show this summer when the network mentioned her in a tweet about Cardi B’s Grammy win.
The Network wrote:
“BET loves Nicki Minaj. We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward. Nicki has paved the way for so many performers and has solidified her place as one of the most powerful figures in the music industry”.
“Unfortunately, the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written. The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values. We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused. We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation.
“We are also conducting an internal audit to assure these types of posts are not published again. We have apologized to Nicki and her team. The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her.
“Finally, we apologize to all of her fans. This should have never happened.”
Minaj and Cardi were involved in a series of fights last year, with the most infamous coming at a New York Fashion Week Event on September. Cardi was photographed leaving the party early with a lump on her head after the pair’s beef got physical.
Both stars later told their followers they would not be fighting anymore on social meda, with Cardi saying:
“If you really wanna talk about it, you know where to link me.”
Minaj responded:
“I know this stuff is entertaining & funny to a lot of people but I won’t be discussing this nonsense anymore.”
The BET Awards are on 23rd June, 2019
